Mercury Retrograde Fall 2020

October 13th – November 3rd, 2020

Mercury Retrograde Definition

What Does Mercury Retrograde Mean?

Mercury rules the mind, communication and short trips. Mercury is also called the trickster of the zodiac. And, when Mercury is in retrograde, he often catches us off guard. Some of the great calamities in history have happened during a Mercury retrograde.

If you want to know more about retrogrades in general, check out my article over at Psychic Bitch, What the Hell is a Retrograde.

I also have a video here on Sparrow Moon about Retrogrades and Astrology.
History of Mercury Retrograde

Examples of Past Mercury Retrograde Conflicts

Mercury Retrograde Ended Just Before Stock Market Crash 1929

The stock market crash of 1929 actually began in September and ended in late October 1929. And Mercury retrograde ran from September 26th at 23° 22′ Libra through October 17th at 8° 2′ Libra. The major fall of the stock market began on October 24th. And the infamous “Black Monday” occurred on October 28th, while Mercury was still traveling along his retrograde path in Libra.

Stock Market Crash 1987 During Mercury Retrograde

The stock market crash of 1987 happened on October 19th. And, Mercury retrograde had begun on October 17th of that year. On the day of the crash, Mercury retrograde was at 12° 52′ Scorpio and at a conjunction with Venus, the ruler of money, and Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth. Mercury retrograde ran from 13° 12′ Scorpio to 29° 11′ Libra. The 29th degree of any sign is called the anaretic degree. And it is usually crisis oriented.

Mercury Retrograde Ended on Presidential Election 2000

The presidential election of 2000 happened on November 7th. Mercury was at direct station (the day he turned direct) at 29° 56′ Libra. This was another example of Mercury retrograde at the anaretic degree. It was unclear on election night exactly who had won the election, George W. Bush or Al Gore. The returns showed that Bush had won Florida by such a close margin that state law required a recount. I remember it well. We went through many days waiting for a recount. And then the recount was disputed. So the matter ended up in court. The Supreme Court decided by a vote of 5 to 4 that Bush had won. Later a study commissioned by eight news organizations determined that if the state of Florida had recounted all the votes in the state, Gore would have won. Mercury retrograde played a bit trick on us that time.

Did Mercury Retrograde Cause the Stock Market Crash 2008?

Mercury retrograde began on September 24th, at 22° 50′ Libra, less than a week before the crash on September 29th. And, on the 29th, we had four planets in Libra including the New Moon. That was the largest single day loss of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in history, until recently. Most of us remember what happened after that.

Similarities — Mercury Retrograde in Libra

All of the above Mercury retrogrades either began or ended in Libra, the ruler of money and fairness. And, as you can see these retrogrades caused financial losses and unfair results. And, I believe our upcoming Mercury retrograde is going to upset our presidential election.

Mercury Retrograde Fall 2020

This Mercury retrograde will run from October 13th at 11° 40′ Scorpio through November 3rd at 25° 57′ Libra. It will begin and end while Mars is doing his retrograde in Aries on the other side of the zodiac. This could bring a sort of tug-of-war between the two retrogrades increasing the tension and bad-luck.

Mars will be at an opposition to the Sun and square to Pluto and Jupiter creating a T-square on the day of Mercury retrograde station (the last day of Mercury retrograde, November 3rd). Anyone who has hopes that things will improve around that time will be majorly disappointed.

Mercury will hold an opposition with Uranus from October 5th through the 12th, before Mercury retrograde begins. Mars will be holding a square with Pluto and Jupiter throughout this time. This will increase our irritations and many will be temperamental.

Mercury will begin a square with our outer planetary stellium, (Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter) on October 29th that will last through November 9th, six days after he turns direct. Saturn is the ruler of authority figures including governments. Mercury square Saturn on a normal day will negate diplomacy and increase stubbornness. With Mars retrograde still happening, I can only imagine the fights that will break-out.
Election Day 2020

Election Night 2020 and Mercury at Direct Station

As I mentioned above, Mercury will be at direct station in Libra on the day of the election, November 3rd. It’s very, very likely that we will see a situation similar to the Bush-Gore election. Mercury is the ruler of communications and voting. It’s likely there will be snags and glitches in the voting process. Mercury square Saturn brings rigid thinking and difficulties in communication, possibly with the law. Mercury square Pluto suggests extreme or brutal tactics. And, Mercury square Jupiter could bring wild embellishments and errors in judgement.

I can’t tell you how it will play-out. But, I am certain it will be messy.
